DiamonDisc Records Releases the Popular Al Jolson Song to Benefit Victims of the Southern California Wildfires
Austin, TX (Billboard Publicity Wire) November 30, 2007 -- DiamonDisc Records today announced that they are releasing a special download only edition of "California, Here I Come" featuring powerhouse tenor Andrew Heller, the proceeds of which will be donated to the Red Cross to aid the victims of the wildfires in Southern California. The release of "California, Here I Come" is now available for download on iTunes and other music sites with 100% of the income from the downloads going directly to the American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund for Southern California. This release is made possible by DiamonDisc Records, Andrew Heller; the song's recording musicians, United Artists, Songcast and the Al Jolson Family Trust.
Originally recorded in 1924, by Al Jolson, the song has been made popular by TV shows and U.S. Presidents and was considered as a nominee for the state song of California.
"My wife and I just returned from an eye opening visit to some of the fire-ravaged parts of Southern California," said Andrew Heller, featured vocalist on the recording. "I am honored to lend my voice to this project and to be able to help raise money for the Red Cross to aid the victims and families affected by the wildfires."
This Red Cross version of "California, Here I Come" was recorded while the fires raged in Southern California at ClearMix Studio in Austin, and Masterlink Studio, owned by Al Jolson Jr. This twist of fate provided the inspiration for the release of the song to benefit the families suffering from the fires.
